powapowa history

this is a modified version copied from Ono.

Powapowa was first published in late 1996[1] by SARA, a doujin circle. Printing was by POPLS Printing. The reason for this connection is that an acquaintance of SARA Futaki
had a connection with POPLS. In the summer of 1996, "1.39" was released, which was an extension of "1.0".
A guidebook had also released. The guidebook contains information that is so important that you can't play the game without it.

After a while, there were stores and circles that held game tournaments in Powapowa.
For example, Yellow Submarine Ochanomizu store.

Although the store is small, it has a high Powapowa selection
because a certain person who won the 1st Best Breeders Contest (BBC) is a clerk.
Although small, there were several tournaments.
It is also the only store that sold individual cards.
There is a shocking fact that illustrators
TRUMP, Kaorunaoko Sakakibara, and Karateka Value came to this tournament in secret.

In the summer of 1997, SARA Futaki, which became a joint-stock company, released only the
cat ear booster of Powapowa's "2.0" in advance, and the starter was also released in September.

Although it is 2.0, the specifications of the card are different
from 1.39, and it is no longer possible to use it together to play games.
Because of this, it was relatively unpopular with users up to 1.39 and
more than half of the number of players who had come up to that point disappeared.

After the release of 2.0, SARA was no longer able to support Powapowa and all production and sales were given to POPLS.

Therefore, it is Powa Powa 2.0, commonly known as Powa 2, but there are unclear parts in the rules,
postponement of the additional set that was scheduled to be released, etc.,
and troubles such as complaints from users and retailers.

Because of that, a major change in the rules and added cards in POPLS.
Kaoruna Sakakibara, who was the main illustrator from around 1.0, left.

Finally, the second edition was released in late September. Former SARA Futaki, who was a POPLS
employee and was in charge of producing the second edition, left POPLS and left the company.

[Note:] ONO's website is considered a "Fansite" because even though he is an official member of the
Powapowa team since the second edition, only the POPLS websites were able to be considered "Official."

[1] While nearly every website mentions it releasing in 1996, 1.0 was actually released in December of 1995.
